On Sunday, 22 students from Byron Bay Public School travelled to Sydney to contest the Tony Lockett Shield in the U12 AFL State Championships.
Our first game against Holbrook Public School was a tough contest. At half time Byron was down by ten points, however the boys applied themselves better in the third quarter to take the lead by two points. The last quarter went goal for goal, eventually we were triumphant winning 27 to 21.
The grand final was then played against Deniliquin South Public School. Even though the game delayed due to a hail storm, our boys started with confidence and experience from the first game. Byron kicked three goals to nil in the first quarter and maintained this pressure with some great team football. The final score was a resounding 72 to 22 points win to Byron. History was made and the Championship was ours.
The trip was support by contributions from the State PSSA, Byron Bay JAFL,
Bateau Bay PS, Byron Bay PS P&C and Byron Bay PS SRC. This resulted in a subsidy reducing the cost of the trip by $189 per student. Thank you for your kind donations.
Congratulations to all the students and a special thanks to coach Sree Raju and all the parents who have supported the school.
