Hairy Psychotria (Psychotria Loniceroides)

Hairy Psychotria, also called Native Coffee, is a plant found in parts of Queensland and New South Wales. It produces bitter berries that are edible, especially after being cooked. The seeds inside the fruit can be roasted and ground to make a coffee-like powder, which is where the nickname "Native Coffee" comes from. This powder can be used as a natural drink or added to other bush foods.

The leaves of Hairy Psychotria were also used in traditional Aboriginal medicine. They were made into teas (called infusions) to help with fevers or headaches. The leaves could also be used to wrap food during cooking, adding flavour. Crushed leaves were sometimes used on wounds because of the plant’s healing properties.
