Thrilling Game sees Byron Bay gain North Coast AFL Championship

On a hot and windy day at Coffs Harbour's ‘Leisure  Park' (a ground the size of Waverly Park!) Byron Bay P.S. played a skilful and determined team from Tacking Point P.S. to decide the North Coast champions in the PSSA , AFL knockout  competition . Playing against the wind Byron scored first with a point and then a goal answered by Tacking point scoring a goal in the last minutes of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Byron using the wind well to score 2 goals, 2 behinds to Tacking Point's 1 behind. The third quarter saw Tacking Point's players combining well to achieve 4 goals, 1 behind with Byron working hard to score a further goal. With tacking Point leading by 5 points going into the last quarter all players put in a spirited performance.  The ball moved from end to end with both teams showing clean skills with fluid passages of play and determined defensive work.  Byron managed to score a point, then with just 3 minutes remaining Joe Beckers took a defiant mark, about 20 meters  from goal, and  with a straight kick put Byron in the lead. Despite continued pressure from Tacking Point that was the last score of the game and Byron came away with a thrilling 2 point win.  Byron's following group of Reade Oliver, Jacob Ogden and Gus Ducasse were stand out performers who consistently put Byron  into positive positions, well supported by Jun Touzel at centre Joe Beckers, Cameron Daniels,  Dylan Leacy, and Jules Amsden in the forward line and Kiel Lobel, Rielly McCollom, Eli Sthapit, and Dylan Vansetten in defense.

The team has had fantastic support from Jamie Touzel , who is training the team. Parent support from Gary Ducasse and Richard Beckers , who goal umpired and ran water to the players , and Greta Touzel ‘s vigorous verbal support , is greatly appreciated by all of the players.

The teams next game is against Greta P.S., from the Singleton area, in about 2 weeks time and is a home game for Byron Bay.
