Community involvement

Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) or by volunteering at our school. Your time, ideas and support help make our school community even stronger.

Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

The Byron Bay Public School P&C brings parents, carers, the school and our wider community together to support our children and strengthen school life.

Working in partnership with the school, the P&C plays an important role in the day-to-day life of our school. It operates key services including the canteen and uniform shop, and supports fundraising, events, community projects and volunteering.

The P&C is also a registered Australian charity, helping direct funds raised and community contributions back into services, resources and initiatives that benefit our school community.

But the P&C isn't just about fundraising. It's also about connection, participation and giving every family an easy way to contribute.

Whether you have ten minutes, two hours, a professional skill, a great idea or simply want to meet other families, there is a way to get involved.

Get involved

You don't need to take on a committee position or attend every meeting to contribute.

Throughout the year there are opportunities to:

• volunteer in the canteen
• help with an event or fundraiser
• take on a small one-off task
• contribute professional skills or local connections
• join a project or event group
• attend a P&C meeting
• take on a P&C or Executive role
• support P&C initiatives through fundraising, donations or community contributions

We want participation to be flexible and realistic around work, family and everyone's different capacity.

P&C meetings

All parents, carers and members of the school community are welcome at P&C meetings.

Meetings are held at the school twice each term and are an opportunity to hear what's happening across the school, contribute ideas, help shape P&C priorities and get involved in upcoming projects.

Connect through our P&C WhatsApp Community

The Byron Bay Public School P&C WhatsApp Community makes it easier for parents and carers to connect with one another and participate in school community life.

The Community includes:

Class Groups
Optional parent groups for everyday class logistics, friendly reminders, social catch-ups and connecting with other families in your child's class.

P&C General Group
A whole-school parent community space for P&C updates, ideas, projects, fundraising and opportunities to get involved.

Canteen Volunteer Group
For volunteer opportunities, roster gaps and practical canteen support.

Pop-Up Event Groups
Temporary groups created for specific P&C events or projects.

Joining your class group

We highly recommend joining your class group so you don't miss opportunities to connect with other families, social activities and ways to participate in your class community.

Participation is completely voluntary.

To protect the privacy of students and families, WhatsApp invitation links are not published on this website or other public channels.

Access to individual class groups is provided to current parents and carers through the school's approved parent communication channels. Families should only use the invitation provided for the class in which their child is currently enrolled.

Please do not share, forward or publish class invitation links.

If you are a new family, join the school during the year, move classes, or have not received the appropriate class-group information, please contact the school so the appropriate joining information can be provided through the school's established parent communication process.

The P&C does not publish class lists, maintain student enrolment information or ask parents to provide information about their child through WhatsApp for the purpose of gaining access.

By joining a P&C WhatsApp group, you agree to follow the Byron Bay Public School P&C Community WhatsApp Guidelines, including expectations around privacy, respect, safety and courtesy.

The P&C WhatsApp Community is a parent-led network operated by the P&C. It is not an official school communication channel and is not monitored by teachers or school staff.

School Bytes, school email, the school website and the school newsletter remain the official sources of school information.

Questions or concerns about an individual child, teaching, learning, wellbeing or other school matters should always be directed to the school through the appropriate official channel.
